Benson Electric, Inc.

Huen acquired Benson Electric, a premier contractor in the Lake County area in January of 2003. Benson has been providing electrical contracting services since 1945. It was one of the first union contractors in the Waukegan area.

Benson provides electrical installations to a large number of businesses in the northeast Illinois region, as well as most of the general contractors and construction managers operating in the area. Their expertise encompasses many diverse areas of the industry including commercial installations, heavy industrial, educational buildings, office and public use facilities, chemical and clean room processing facilities, office and tenant units, hospital facilities, congregate care/assisted living facilities, water and wastewater treatment plants and traffic signal/street lighting systems.

Some of Benson’s notable projects include The Great Lakes Naval Training Center, USNTC Great Lakes Hospital, Lake County Public Works Department, City of Waukegan Water Treatment Facility, College of Lake County, Waukegan Public School System, Gillette Chemical Company, Hewitt Associates, Palwaukee Airport Control Tower, Waukegan Regional airport Runway Lighting and Metra facilities in Waukegan, Antioch, Mundelein, Northbrook.

LAKE FOREST HOSPITAL – Benson Electric was the prime electrical contractor for the new Women’s Health Center, a five-story wing addition with a footprint of 81,360 square feet. The new wing is dedicated to obstetrics, mammography and childbearing education. The hospital also completed an emergency generation upgrade from 3MG to 4MG this year. This backup system is complimented by a new cogeneration plant with a capacity of 23MG.
