LEED: Respecting Our Surroundings

Huen has long been an advocate of environmental sustainability.  Since we started our business 25 years ago, we have made a conscious effort to respect our surroundings, the environment and the communities in which we work.

Our efforts have involved promoting energy efficiency whenever and wherever we can.  In fact, Huen became one of the first contractors in Chicago to include a Registered Energy Professional (REP) on its staff.

Over the past decade, we have accelerated our green practices as even more energy efficient technology and building systems have become available.  And we have incorporated sustainable building practices into our strategic plan and goals.

So when the U.S. Green Building Council introduced the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System and certification program, we were pleased to discover another tool to help us support preserving the environment in our construction and engineering practices.  LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

Huen has completed multiple LEED certified building projects over the past several years, including 540 West Madison / ABN Amro Plaza in Chicago (LEED Gold), One South Dearborn, Chicago (LEED Silver), Wight & Company Headquarters, Darien (LEED Certified), and Bolingbrook High School (LEED Certified) and we will continue to pursue more of these projects in the future.

We’re proud of our team members who recently achieved LEED accreditation and those who are working toward their LEED.  We fully support our team in improving their work and our client’s projects while promoting greener buildings and a cleaner, safer environment.
