As vice president and director of risk management, John leads Huen’s insurance and safety programs for all locations. In this role, he is responsible for planning, managing and coordinating all tactical risk management functions for Huen. This includes insurance placement oversight, claims management as well as prime contract and subcontract reviews. He works closely with operations, our insurance broker client services team, carriers and other service providers to design and implement policies and programs to mitigate, reduce and transfer risk for the company.

His safety management responsibilities include defining, implementing and monitoring Huen’s safety policy and procedures. He trains managers, supervisors and other employees in risk transference, scaffold usage, OSHA regulations, asbestos awareness, MEWP, crane signal, confined work space, excavation, GHS, flagger, NFPA 70E, S.T.A.R.T., Foundations in Safety Leadership, First Aid, CPR and AED.

With more than 30 years of insurance and loss control experience in promoting risk management and safety for construction projects, John has continually improved Huen’s experience modification rate (EMR). He has created a contagious safety culture throughout Huen. While consistently reducing the human and financial cost of workplace incidents and insurance, Huen is able to pass those savings along to clients.

John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Northern Illinois University and is an OSHA Outreach Trainer.
